This week has been exciting with discoveries of how the earth functions in terms of plate tectonics and boundaries. Learners played with playdough submerged into water to experience convergent, divergent, transform plate boundaries and subduction zones. One question brought up was “could new land forms be made?” and playing with convergent boundaries (playdough) helped us answer some of those questions. Our heroes baked cupcakes with different separate food coloring in order to replicate layers of the earth. After baking and glazing our dirt (chocolate frosting) we took a crust sample of the earth and looked inside to investigate those layers. This was super fun and everyone enjoyed the delicious “earth crust samples”.

We have continued to learn about the Spanish and Russian language which gets a little challenging sometimes because it is something unfamiliar to many of the heroes. Any chance that our learners get to write and listen to stories during our writer’s workshop is always an accomplishment. The short term goals we have made every day are sometimes challenging, but feel fulfilling to learners after accomplishing them.

Just a reminder because our heroes are very excited, the white elephant is next Friday and gifts will be a max of $10.
