This week our Hero’s committed to finishing their Lip Dub. The first couple of days were frustrating for them because when the question “was this your best work?” was asked they could not agree. Some students agreed that if it was not their best work, they should not settle for it. This led to a longer execution of the task, but in the end everyone was satisfied with their work. The students chose the locations to use, chose their song, and how they would travel from room to room. The only thing I did was record and edit the video to view it.

Slowly, but surely I have noticed more independence between everyone. Our rules of engagement help keep everyone accountable for each other. Randomly, I will hear a student reference at our contract as to how they are or are not holding up to the standards they all decided and committed to. Also, I have slowly backed away from helping because they have started to volunteer helping each other with something difficult, rather than wait for me to help them.

We are still working on not giving up so easily and taking on challenges. It is heartwarming to see the Hero’s try and motivate each other  when they know their friend is having a difficult time, which we remind each other that it is part of the Hero’s journey.
